As a mom and teacher, I know how important reading is—it builds imagination, vocabulary, and confidence. But just as important is how kids experience reading. When grownups and kids read together—whether it’s the grownup reading to the child, the child reading aloud to the grownup, or even both quietly reading their own books side by side—it shows kids that reading is valuable, enjoyable, and worth making time for. This shared reading experience helps foster a lifelong love of books for both kids and grownups alike.
That’s why I created the Summer Reading Challenge—a fun and flexible way for families to keep learning and engaging with reading all summer long. There’s a free incentive just for signing up, an even bigger reward for completing the challenge, and the best part is you don’t need to be local to join. Everything is online, so anyone with a USA mailing address can participate.
How to Participate
Joining the Summer Reading Challenge is simple—and full of fun rewards! When you sign up, you'll receive 10% off in my Etsy shop plus a free printable coloring page!
There are several easy ways to submit your reading log:
– Print it and mail it in
– Print and email a scanned copy or photo
– Fill out and submit the digital reading log each week
Each week, log your reading and pick an activity from the choice board—you can try something new each time or repeat your favorites. Once completed, you can email a photo or share a photo on social media and tag @RachelMambachArt. (Sharing the choice board activities with me isn't required, but it's a fun way to stay connected and maybe get a shout out on social media!) When you finish the challenge, you’ll get a sticker and two hand-painted bookmarks—and you'll also be entered into a special giveaway! Three lucky winners will receive a coloring book and a $10 Amazon gift card.

Your role is key! Whether you’re reading aloud to your child, listening as they read to you, or simply sharing quiet reading time together, your participation shows kids that reading is important and fun. Plus, it’s a wonderful chance for you to reconnect with the joy of books. I encourage you to dive in and enjoy this challenge alongside your kids—after all, reading is a gift we can share across generations.
